In Cooperation With
Me and That Man, Mantar and more to Inferno 2024
By lfh on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, 4:04 PM

We are excited to announce even more artists for Inferno Metal Festival 2024. This time, we present Me and That Man, Mantar, Befouled, Zustand Null and Visegard!

Me and That ManDark folk-rock, country, and gothic blues – probably not what you expected at Inferno! But that’s exactly what you’ll get when Me and That Man take the stage at Rockefeller during Easter 2024. And maybe it’s not such a surprise when you know that the mastermind behind this project is none other than Adam “Nergal” Darski from Behemoth! On their three released albums so far, he has been joined by guests like Gary Holt, Abbath, Blaze Bayley, Alissa White-Gluz, Corey Taylor, Ihsahn, David Vincent, and many more. This will be a concert like no other.

MantarMantar is a German duo consisting of drummer Erinç Sakarya and guitarist Hanno Klänhard. They were inspired by bands like Melvins, Darkthrone, and Motörhead when they formed Mantar, resulting in unique music that blends sludge metal, rock ‘n’ roll and black metal. Since their inception in 2012, they have released five albums. Their latest work is titled “Pain Is Forever and This Is the End,” which has received glowing reviews. This will be the band’s first appearance at Inferno Metal Festival.

BefouledØstfold is not far from Sweden, so it’s perhaps not surprising that the death metal band Befouled is one of Norway’s most avid users of Boss HM-2 pedals. If you want that buzzsaw sound in your death metal, Befouled is the band to reckon with. They have released two albums of old-school death metal so far, with “Denying Pulse” coming out last year. We look forward to having the band with us at Inferno Metal Festival 2024.
https://www.facebook.com/Befouled

Zustand NullOslo-based band Zustand Null has built a solid reputation in the metal underground since their formation in 2016, initially going by the name Ignotus for a few years. Finally, in 2023, their debut album “Beyond the Limit of Sanity” was released, and it was definitely worth the wait. The result is solid black metal of the finest kind. The band is already back in the studio working on their follow-up, so we can look forward to their next release and, of course, their performance at Inferno Metal Festival 2024.
https://www.facebook.com/zustandnull

VisegardVisegard hails from Telemark and plays old-school black metal, reminiscent of the kind we all loved in the 90s. They released a fantastic debut album in 2014, and since then, we’ve been eagerly awaiting a followup. We got a taste in 2021 when they released a split album with Kirkebrann – and it left us craving more. So, we are thrilled to have the band at Inferno for the very first time.

Arthur Brown, Koldbrann and Bell Witch Ready for Inferno 2024
By lfh on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, 5:47 PM

We are excited to announce more artists to Inferno Metal Festival 2024. This time we can serve you American funeral doom metal band Bell Witch, Norwegian black metal masters Koldbrann and The God of Hellfire himself: Arthur Brown!

Arthur BrownI am the God of Hellfire! We are going back to 1967 when this British guy started a band called The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and soon after released a single called “Fire”. On stage he would wear a helmet on fire and use extreme make-up – pre-dating both Alice Cooper and Kiss. Being so early he is of course one of the most important figures in what was to come later on. “A guy called Arthur Brown... was a big influence of mine”, the words belong to Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson. “Without Arthur Brown, there’d be no Alice Cooper”, said Alice Cooper himself. “We were still seeing bands come out in three-piece suits singing love songs, but this guy comes out screaming, ‘I am the God of Hellfire’. Did Arthur Brown influence Kiss? I think so. God of Hellfire… God of Thunder. The flames, the make-up, the craziness”, a quote of Gene Simmons from Kiss. The list goes on. The legend still lives on and still performs in all his craziness! See Arthur Brown at Inferno Metal Festival for the very first time!
https://www.facebook.com/arthurbrownmusic

KoldbrannFounded in 2001 in Drammen, Norway, Koldbrann emerged during a time when the Norwegian black metal scene was already firmly established, but they managed to carve out their own unique niche in the genre. Koldbrann’s early releases, like their debut album “Nekrotisk Inkvisition” (2003) and “Moribund” (2006), established them as a potent force in the Norwegian underground black metal scene. Koldbrann continued to refine their sound and released the critically acclaimed album “Vertigo” in 2013. Their commitment to black metal’s core principles while pushing the boundaries of the genre demonstrates their enduring influence and importance in the global black metal community. Koldbrann last performed at Inferno Metal Festival in 2009 and it is time to bring them back to our stage!
https://www.facebook.com/koldbrannofficial

Bell WitchFormed in Seattle, Washington, in 2010, the duo of Dylan Desmond (bass and vocals) and Jesse Shreibman (drums and vocals) has forged a unique path within the world of funeral doom metal called Bell Witch. What sets Bell Witch apart from many other bands in the genre is their minimalist approach. With just bass, drums, and vocals, they craft epic, slow-moving compositions that stretch the boundaries of what can be achieved with such limited instrumentation. Bell Witch’s music is characterized by its excruciatingly slow tempos, crushing heaviness, and a profound sense of melancholy. Bell Witch’s fourth LP was released in 2023 via Profound Lore and contains one continuous 83-minute piece unfolding as a single track. Exactly the same length as on “Mirror Reaper” from 2017. This will be Bell Witch’s first show at Inferno Metal Festival.

Black Metal Bus Sightseeing
By lfh on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, 8:44 PM

The Black Metal Bus sightseeing with Anders Odden is back! NEW ROUTING 2024

A trip through some of the places that marked the beginning of the legend that became NORWEGIAN BLACK METAL.

Conducted by Anders Odden (Cadaver, Celtic Frost, Order)

Bus TourFor the normal music fan the story of Norwegian black metal is essencially something about murder, suicide and church fires. Between 1991 and 1993 many of the most important events in this dark chapter in Norwegian music history took place in Oslo and we have put together a field trip to the sights that takes you back in time.

In the beginning there is always someone that does something new and then gets people to follow a new vision. Through his record store, Helvete, and his band, Mayhem, Øystein Aarseth aka Euronymous became the key person. He inspired and promoted all the early bands in the early Norwegian metal scene such as Emperor, Darkthrone, Immortal, Burzum etc.

He was subsequently killed by the infamous leader of Burzum, Varg Vikernes aka Count Grishnack, in his apartment on the 10th of August 1993 after a whole year of turmoil in the growing but obscure underground scene of Oslo and Bergen alike.

This date marked the end of an era and the small scene that until then was totally unknown to the public was in the tabloid media and made headlines far outside Norway.

Anders Odden formed his first black metal band, Slaught, in 1986 after attending a rehearsal with Mayhem at the age of 14. He was one of the pioneers in the infancy of the Norwegian scene dealing with tape trading, organizing of concerts and creating more and more extreme music on his own. He formed Cadaver in 1988 and released the first Norwegian death metal album on Earache Records in 1990. His band played shows with Darkthrone, Mayhem, Old Funeral and many more bands of what would become the Norwegian black metal scene in the beginning. This field trip has exclusive anecdotes and personal memories of the early life of the scene from someone who was there.

Blood Red Throne Replaces 1914
By lfh on Friday, March 31, 2023, 7:24 AM

Sadly 1914 can’t perform at this year’s Inferno Festival due to the horrible war in Ukraine. Norwegian death metal band Blood Red Throne will step in to perform at the festival.

Quote from 1914:
“Many of you may have noticed the recent wave of tour cancellations of Ukrainian bands in Europe. Unfortunately, 1914 is no exception here. It is with a heavy heart to inform you that we will not be able to play for our fans in April/May and have to cancel our upcoming tour. There is still war going on in our country, and at this time it is impossible for men over a certain age to leave Ukraine. How were we able to travel last year? It was possible to get special permission from the state authorities for artists to leave the country and perform gigs and other activities to help the country and spread the truth about the brutal war started by Russia. There were some irresponsible people who used such permits to leave the country and never returned. After this became known, the state authorities stopped issuing special permits to artists, artificially complicating the process of obtaining all the necessary documents and expanding the list of required documents, making it impossible for bands to obtain the necessary paperwork. This affected many bands in Ukraine. In the last few weeks we were constantly struggling with this new system, trying to show that we had a positive experience of returning home after touring abroad and that such tours are beneficial for our country. But no matter how hard we tried - we couldn’t get through the system, which makes it impossible for us to play this time. We would like to apologize to our fans, other bands and promoters, but right now we are powerless here. We will work hard to make sure we can get to our other shows this year. Maybe the ice will melt and we’ll see some relief in the future, but for now we’ve done all we can.”

Blood Red ThroneBlood Red Throne is a Norwegian death metal band that was formed in Kristiansand in 1998. The band’s sound is characterized by fast-paced, brutal death metal with intense blast beats, crushing riffs and guttural vocals. Blood Red Throne has released ten studio albums to date, starting with their debut album “Monument of Death” in 2001. Their most recent album, “Imperial Congregation,” was released in 2021 to great acclaim. Over the years, the band has built a dedicated fanbase around the world and has toured extensively in Europe, North America, and South America.

Blood Red Throne has had a significant impact on the death metal scene, influencing countless other bands with their aggressive and technical approach to the genre. They continue to be one of the most respected and revered bands in the Norwegian death metal scene, and their music remains as brutal and intense as ever.

Slegest Replaces Vredehammer
By lfh on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, 11:11 PM

Sadly Vredehammer can’t perform at this year’s Inferno Festival due to injury. Luckily the Norwegian blackened doom metal band Slegest are able to step in to perform at the festival. The band recently released their fourth album called “Avstand” to great acclaim. We can’t wait to have Slegest perform at Inferno Metal Festival 2023!

SlegestIt was only a year after guitarist and vocalist Stig Ese left Vreid that Slegest was born. In 2012 their first EP was launched and in 2013 their debut album was came out. By now Slegest have two EPs and four albums under their belt. Their style can be described as blackened doom metal – not being afraid to be inspired by 70s and 80s rock as well as Norwegian black metal. The band has proved to do great live performances – just recently doing a successful tour with their companions Kampar in Norway. Be sure to see Slegest perform live at Inferno Metal Festival 2023 when they enter the stage at John Dee to serve some sinister and severely hard hitting heavy metal tunes!

Kate Pendry - The Ballad of Little Wolf
By lfh on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, 6:38 PM

The Ballad of Little Wolf explores themes such as love, parenthood, sex and death based on Ibsen’s Little Eyolf. Pendry’s experiments with biometric technology and the range of auditory bodily sounds and voice use, combined with Steffensen’s focus on the guitar’s role and expressive possibilities as a tool in conveying meaning-bearing sound are fused together to create a mythical expression. A performance where Pendry and Steffensen present a special palette of expression as musicians and actors.

BREWGATA, SATURDAY 8 APRIL, 15.00

KATE PENDRY
Kate Pendry has worked extensively with classical acting techniques, technology and experimental techniques based in Bhuto and Grotowksi. With a broad mimetic repertoire, she continues to find new intersections of artistic expression where the experienced actress can expand the range of communicative prowess.

Known as an artist who uses the theatrical to comment on contemporary society’s disharmonies, Pendry’s collaboration with composer Steffensen has seen successful works such as Ode To A Mad King (about the inauguration of Donald Trump) marry ‘unperformable’ topics with accessible musical expression (full big band format), taking the narratives into an unpredictable space that audiences seems able to connect to.

In The Ballad of Little Wolf, Pendry and Steffensen explore the limits of their ranges as musician and actress. Pendry’s current explorations with biometric technology and the range of ‘sound’ the body is capable of, coupled with Steffensen’s focus on the theatrical, real-time performativity of composition and musicianship, combine to create a mythopoeic space, where with just two performers the room can be transformed by the sonic shadows they create.

Little Wolf is a combination of scripted and improvised music and text. Pendry’s recent collaboration with the Lemur ensemble allowed her to develop a considerable vocabulary of vocal expression, where the actress’s voice becomes another instrument in the ensemble – far removed from ‘singing’, yet still connected to text.

Steffensen recently explored the twilight world of Dagny Juel’s history in Odille Heftye Blehr’s production Madonna Prosjektet, where he played, and played as Edvard Munch providing a filmic soundtrack to the dramatic narrative unfolding on stage.

With Little Wolf, Pendry and Steffensen unite the diversity of their artistic expressions in this concert sprechen-sang, bringing together musicianship and theatricality to create a performance that seeks to nudge the boundaries of the artists’ respective disciplines.

We can announce Elder, Fleshmeadow, Filthdigger, Hulder, Omnia Moritur, Ottone Pesante to Inferno Metal Festival 2023!

ElderElder is a genre-pushing rock band that melds heavy psychedelic sounds with progressive elements. Formed in a small coastal town in USA in 2006, the band has reinvented their sound over the course of five albums to grow from a stalwart of the doom scene into one of the most unique voices in the rock underground. The band’s newest album, “Innate Passage”, was released in 2022. Recorded and mixed at Cloud’s Hill Studio in Hamburg, Germany during two sessions over the course of 2021, this new album shows the band’s ever-expanding musical vocabulary and joy for sonic exploration as never before. FleshmeadowThe Oslo-based extreme metal band Fleshmeadow released their debut album “Umbra” in 2016 and got great reviews from critics all over the world. Blending technical death metal and black metal gave the band an unique sound. Their next release, “Daymares” in 2019, clearly showed the strengths that lay within Fleshmeadow. Their music has been described as the bastard child from so different artists as early Gojira to Mayhem to Keep of Kalessin. The band is now currently recording their next release, which will mark the next step of their ambitious evolution.

Arcturus, Octohawk, Nadir and Welcome To Hell
By lfh on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, 5:43 PM

Legendary Norwegian avant-garde black metallers Arcturus are confirmed for Inferno Metal Festival 2023. We can also confirm Octohawk, Nadir and Welcome to Hell for the club concerts at the festival!

ArcturusArcturus is one the most outstanding, experimental, innovative and unique bands from the early Norwegian black metal scene in the 90s. The band started in 1990 with members and ex-members from such bands as Mayhem, Mortem, Emperor, Ulver, Ved buens ende and many more. Their debut album “Aspera Hiems Symfonia” was groundbreaking for atmospheric black metal. The sequel “La masquerade infernale” took it even further of what was possible to do within Norwegian black metal. The mixture of black metal, Italian opera, classical music, symphonic elements and Edgar Allen Poe was mind blowing for its time and even for the present. Since then the band has released three more studio albums of high quality. We are happy to have them back at Inferno Metal Festival!
https://www.facebook.com/arcturusnorway

OctohawkNewcomers Octohawk from Norway came with a strong stoner metal band vibe on their debut full-length “Animist” released in 2021. Most of the members are not as fresh faced as they may seem as the core of the band functioned under the title Mammüth for many years. With an image change as well as a sound change in 2020 four of the five members would continue on as Octohawk. Check this band out when they perform at Inferno Metal Festival 2023!
https://www.facebook.com/octohawkband/

NadirNorwegian band Nadir is fast paced, melodic and aggressive with deep roots within the black metal genre. Instead of resting on the genre’s past victories, Nadir sets out to explore the fringes with their take on a scene steeped in tradition. With members that all have put in years and years into the Norwegian metal scene, and a will of fire, Nadir is poised to be at the forefront of a new wave of Norwegian metal.

WelcomeToHellWelcome to Hell is a tribute band for the legendary British band Venom. The band was formed in Sarpsborg and has members and ex-members from such bands as Under the Oak, Ragnarok and Images at Twilight. By lfh on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, 5:49 PM

American death metal band Nile and the new Norwegian extreme metal band Tilintetgjort are confirmed for Inferno Metal Festival 2023!

NileNile is an American death metal band from Greenville, South Carolina, formed in 1993. The band is known for their dedicated lyrical and musical styles inspired by Egyptology and works of H.P. Lovecraft. The band sometimes categorizes their music as “Ithyphallic Metal”, in reference to its epic Egyptian themes. Since its formation Nile has released nine studio albums – their latest studio album “Vile Nilotic Rites” in 2019. The band has not been in Norway since they played at Inferno Metal Festival in 2016, so it is time to bring them back to our country.

TilintetgjortTilintetgjort is a new Norwegian extreme metal band with members from such bands as Whip, Troll, Urarv, Den Saakaldte and The 3rd Attempt. Abbath, Beaten to Death and Blodhemn at Inferno 2023
By lfh on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, 4:58 PM

We got three great Norwegian bands to announce for you: Abbath, Beaten to Death and Blodhemn are all confirmed for Inferno Metal Festival 2023!

AbbathWhen Abbath left the mighty Immortal in 2015 he went on to form a new band under his pseudonym. The legendary frontman did not hesitate and by now the band has released three amazingly powerful albums. Abbath has a long history with Inferno Metal Festival, performing with Immortal in 2003, 2007 and 2011. In 2017 he came to Inferno with the band Abbath, but left the stage after four songs. Water under the bridge – a lot has happened since then – and Abbath is back stronger and better than ever. A new album was released in 2022 with some of the best material the man has made to date. We are happy to have Abbath back with us at Inferno Metal Festival 2023!
https://www.facebook.com/abbathband

Beaten to DeathBeaten to Death is a grindcore band from Oslo. The band has since their formation in 2010 released five full-length albums where two of them got nominated for best metal album at the Norwegian Grammy award known as Spellemannsprisen. Beaten to Death consist of members and ex-members from such bands as She Said Destroy, Grimfist, The Cumshots and Tsjuder. This will be Beaten to Death’s first gig at Inferno Metal Festival.
https://www.facebook.com/beatentodeath/

BlodhemnBlodhemn came to life in 2004 – a one-man black metal band from the west coast of Norway formed by Invisus. The first demo raised a lot of eyebrows in the underground scene in 2008, and the critically acclaimed EP “Brenn Alle Bruer” from 2010 made it clear that Invisus and Blodhemn were very serious about what they were doing. Blodhemn became an underground phenomenon, which soon earned a reputation as a stunning live band. Blodhemn continues the tradition of great Norwegian black metal bands like Immortal, Enslaved and Gorgoroth but with their own distinct sound and aggression in the mix. Blodhemn released their fourth album “Sverger hemn” in 2022 and are now ready to return to Inferno Metal Festival for a second time!

Emperor to Inferno 2023
By lfh on Sunday, October 16, 2022, 4:05 PM

We are proud to announce the almighty EMPEROR for Inferno Metal Festival 2023.
Prepare yourself for a very special gig done by the masters of Norwegian black metal!

EmperorEmperor is without a doubt one of the most important bands from the Norwegian black metal scene. The band started in 1991 and already the following year they released the now legendary demo tape “Wrath of the Tyrant”. Four amazing albums, “In the Nightside Eclipse”, “Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk”, “IX Equilibrium” and “Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire and Demise”, was released before the band disbanded in 2001 because they felt they had lived up to everything they wanted to with Emperor. Luckily for us the band has continued to tour on rare occasions to keep the spirit of Emperor alive. This is one of those occasions and we are happy to have them back with us at Inferno Metal Festival 2023! Emperor did their first complete concert after the reunion in 2006 at Inferno – a gig that was made eternal at the live album “Live Inferno” released in 2009. We are counting that the upcoming gig will be just as legendary!

Watain, Wayfarer and Ruun to Inferno 2023
By lfh on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, 6:05 PM

Swedish black metal band Watain, American western black metal band Wayfarer and
Norwegian death metal band Ruun are confirmed for Inferno Metal Festival 2023.

WatainSweden’s Watain started in 1998 and has since then grown into one of the world’s best known and notorious black metal bands. Their infamous live shows have become a worldwide phenomenon. With their greatly anticipated seventh studio album, Watain continues to arouse and electrify their audience with an unmistakable, adventurous brand of black metal Magic, processed and distilled over the course of a 25-year long history. The album takes the listener one step closer to the innermost heart of a band that despite always being surrounded by rumours and controversy has always strived for the most sincere and genuine expression.
https://www.facebook.com/watainofficial

WayfarerWayfarer is black metal of the American Wild West. The band reflects the history and the myth of a land soaked in blood. Drawing as deep from the annals of extreme metal as from the gothic Americana of Colorado, Wayfarer tells their tale with dust laden riffing, fierce rhythms, harsh bellows and broken song. This will be Wayfarer first time at Inferno Metal Festival!
https://www.facebook.com/wayfarercolorado

RuunRuun is a death metal trio from Hønefoss, Norway, formed in 2017. Ruun released their debut-EP “Atheos” in 2019 and their first full-length album “Impermanence” in 2022. Inferno Music Conference 2023
By lfh on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, 6:03 PM

Flyer

Inferno Music Conference 2023

After an eventful 2022 with the industry getting back on track, we are now looking forward to the Inferno Music Conference 2023. As always, there are new and timeless challenges to be discussed, stories to be told, and people to meet. There will be eight panels per day divided into two rooms during the two days of the conference. The conference takes place at Clarion, the Hub in Oslo, on the 6th and 7th of April from 11.00 – 15.30 both days. The Hub is the official hotel for the Inferno Metal Festival. The Hub will accommodate artists, delegates, and the festival audience. As night falls, we let the day slip away into the darkness, knowing the night brings some amazing metal acts to the stage at Rockefeller. Now, let's look forward and evaluate the past. Here are the first panels.

The power of a live concept: Bringing theatre to the metal stage

We have all seen colossal concert productions focusing on theatrical concepts. It might seem obvious that this dramatically impacts the audience, lifting the experience to another level. However, still, most artists don't use this or tap into it subtly. We want to explore the benefits of creating a musical universe and a story playing out theatrically, live, and on albums. The story might capture the audience, make the musical experience more immersive, and in the end, increase revenue.

Audience Flow: Creating the perfect open-air festival area layout

A successful festival is more than just creating a great lineup. Giving the audience paths so they can move around the festival quickly and easily makes a great impression on the experience at the festival. Directing the flow through a sales funnel to increase revenue for vendors, or not? Logistics and placement of necessary facilities without obstructing other areas. There are many solutions and views on the subject. Let's talk about open-air Festivals!

The second wave: The influence of Masacre(CO)

During the early days of Black Metal, the music was chaotic and destructive. Many bands took it upon themselves to do everything in their power to deviate from all other genres. The music was a riot against conformity, religion, and structure. They were depicting the chaos of young minds.

But the musical direction was not a local occurrence in Norway alone. There was communication and demo tape trading between Norway, Colombia, and many other countries. In this interview, we will hear the story from the Colombian side. One of the oldest black Metal bands from Medellin, Masacre, will be doing an in-depth talk with Harald Fossberg and Kjetil Manheim, one of the original members of Mayhem

Platforms and Social Media Consumption

Many platforms have been predicted to be the leading media to reach the masses. Our presence online is continually growing. Trends come and go. Is it necessary to keep up with the never-ending change to achieve viral success? Or is it beneficial to set a steady course and do your own thing?

Connect the industry and make it stronger; we hope to see you in Oslo on Easter 2023

The Inferno Music Conference takes place at The Hub, the official festival hotel, from 11:00 until 15:30 on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th of April.

The ticket also includes welcome party and Indie Recordings Label Night at SALT on Wednesday the 5th of April.

There is a limited amount of delegate passes available for 700NOK via Tickemaster. Click here to order.

Wolves In the Throme RoomAmerican black metal band Wolves in the Throne Room was formed in 2022 by brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver. Their first studio album, “Diadem of 12 Stars” from 2006, was a genredissolving classic that created a melancholy and psychedelic atmosphere. You could feel the rain storms coming at you, smell the wood smoke and experience the wild energies of the Pacific Northwest. By now Wolves in the Throne Room has released seven full-length albums – all of them with their own unique personality. This will be Wolves in the Throne Room first time at Inferno Metal Festival!
https://www.facebook.com/wolvesinthethroneroom

Black Metal Bus Sightseeing
By lfh on Thursday, September 8, 2022, 5:53 PM

A trip through the places that marked the beginning of the legend that is now known as NORWEGIAN BLACK METAL. Conducted by Anders Odden (Cadaver, Celtic Frost, Satyricon, Order)

BusTour

For the avarange music fan the story of Norwegian Black Metal is in essence something about murder, suicide and church burning. Between 1991 and 1993 many of the most important events in this dark chapter in Norwegian music history took place in Oslo and we have put together a field trip to the sights that takes you back in time.

In the beginning there is always just one man that starts something new and then gets people to follow his vision. This man was Øystein Aarseth aka Euronymous. He was through his record store, Helvete, and his band, Mayhem, the key person of the early Norwegian black metal scene and his visions lead to his demise. The equally infamous leader of Burzum, Varg Vikernes aka Count Grishnack, killed Euronymous in his own apartment on the 10th of August 1993. This date marked the end of an era and the small scene that until then was totally unknown to the public was in the tabloid media and made headlines far outside Norway.

Anders Odden formed his first black metal band, Slaught, in 1986 after attending a rehearsal with Mayhem at the age of 14. He was one of the pioneers in the infancy of the Norwegian scene dealing with tape trading, organizing concerts and creating more and more extreme music on his own. He formed Cadaver in 1988 and released the first Norwegian death metal album on Earache Records in 1990. His band played shows with Dark Throne, Mayhem, Old Funeral and many more bands of what would become the Norwegian black metal scene in the beginning.

This field trip has exclusive anecdotes and personal memories of the early life of the scene from someone who was there.

Unleashed, Ingested and Stormruler to Inferno 2023
By lfh on Thursday, September 1, 2022, 5:33 PM

Sweden’s veteran death metal band Unleashed, British death metal outfit Ingested and  American black metal band Stormruler are confirmed for Inferno Metal Festival 2023.

UnleashedUnleashed was formed in Stockholm, Sweden in November 1989, and sprang from the ashes of the pioneer death metal band Nihilist. Unleashed, along with a few more bands founded what is today called the Swedish death metal scene. There have been very few line-up changes throughout the years and the band still consist of the same members from the 90s. The band has kept to the roots and never followed the trends. It’s been twelve years since Unleashed performed at Inferno Metal Festival and Oslo – so we welcome them back with pride!
https://www.facebook.com/unleashed

IngestedBritish death metal band Ingested have been around since 2006. Since then the band has released six critically acclaimed albums of brutal death metal and deathcore. In 2022 they will return with a brand new album called “Ashes Lie Still”. The band has only once before been in Norway so we are happy to have them at Inferno Metal Festival for the very first time!

StormrulerThe St. Louis-based two-man project Stormruler combines unrelenting black metal atmosphere and vision from varying metal genres with a brutal, modernized twist of inspiration culled from high-fantasy and history. Stormruler released their debut album “Under the Burning Eclipse” in 2019 and now they are back with the second album “Sacred Rites & Black Magick”. With ominous instrumental ambience and incendiary black metal riffs and fury, the album tells harrowing tales of war, death, victory and defeat, and delivers an unmatched, hellscaped auditory experience. This will be Stormruler’s first time in Norway!

By lfh on Friday, August 26, 2022, 5:25 PM

Currently located at Blitz, the channel has a unique insight into what stirs in the Norwegian underground. The music profile covers most of what is tough and cool – from the strangest punk voices to hard-hitting country!

Tune in to radiOrakel at FM 99.3 or at their own website at https://radiorakel.no/.

“Inferno has long been one of the most exciting festivals in Norway, not only because of genre selection and booking, but also because it has become a meeting place for the industry that exists outside of purely commercial and popular music. It is no less professional or innovative for that reason. radiOrakel clearly has a music profile that leans more in this direction, and we look forward to having the opportunity to be an official contributor and partner with the festival in 2023”

Godflesh, Urgehal and Masacre to Inferno 2023
By lfh on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, 5:41 PM

We welcome British industrial metal legends Godflesh, Norwegian old school black metallers Urgehal and Colombian death metal veterans Masacre to Inferno Metal Festival 2023!

GodfleshIndustrial metal band Godflesh was formed in 1982 in Birmingham in England under the moniker Fall of Because. In 1988 the band was renamed Godflesh and the band decided to use a drum machine for percussion and melding heavy metal with industrial music, and later with electronic music and dub, pioneering the genre and making their sound a foundational influence on other industrial metal and post-metal acts. The band has by now released eight albums and a new album is under development. This will be Godflesh first appearance at Inferno Metal Festival!
https://www.facebook.com/jkflesh

UrgehalUrgehal from Hønefoss in Norway was formed in 1992 by Trondr Nefas and Enzifer. The band released many classics full-length albums, demo tapes and EPs before Trondr Nefas sadly passed away May 12th 2012. The band decided to finish their last album in honour of Trondr Nefas and to mark the end of Urgehal in 2016. The band was brought back in 2022 in honour of the ten years passing of Nefas to do a few selected gigs to uphold his legacy. We are glad to have them back with us for a very special gig at Inferno Metal Festival 2023.

MasacreColombian death metal band Masacre was founded in 1988 in Medellín, Colombia. We are now talking death metal of the brutal kind that are not made for people with a weak stomach! By now the band has released a huge number of demos, EPs, live-albums and five full-length albums. Masacre still hold their position as Colombia’s finest death metal band and keep their music as brutal as ever. This will be Masacre’s first time in Norway!

1914 from Ukraine to Inferno 2023
By lfh on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, 6:09 PM

1914Sadly Ukrainian band 1914 had to cancel Inferno Metal Festival in 2022 as their homeland was invaded by Russia. Now 1914 have been appointed “cultural ambassadors for Ukraine” and with special permission from the Ukrainian government the band is allowed to leave Ukraine and do the gig at Inferno Metal Festival 2023. We are looking forward to have this amazing band with us on Norwegian soil for the very first time!

“The war changes the rules and destroys everything that was created for many years. Imperialistic ambitions of fucking dictators force people to leave their homes, go to war, sit in the trenches and die. And while our soldiers are on the frontlines destroying the enemy, our front is cultural. Our front is truth, spreading the message. We received a legal permission from our government to become cultural ambassadors of Ukraine in the world, to speak out to the whole Europe about this horrible war that will affect everyone.”
- 1914

Ukrainian blackened death doom metal band 1914 took the metal community by storm when they released their second album, the masterpiece “The Blind Leading the Blind”, in 2018. Their third album, “Where Fear and Weapons Meet” came in 2021, and took the band even further. As their name suggests, 1914, is exclusively themed around World War I. 1914 has never played before in any of the Nordic countries and we are excited to bring the band to Norway for the very first time!

More Bands Added to the 2023 Lineup
By lfh on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, 5:34 PM

We know you are hungry and excited for more artists for Inferno Metal Festival 2023 – so here we go! We are proud to welcome Dark Funeral, Uada, Sakis Tolis, Mork, Vredehammer and Afsky to our 2023 edition.

Dark FuneralSwedish black metal pioneers Dark Funeral have blazed a path of satanic ritualism and anti-religion that has endured for nearly three decades. The band’s seventh studio album, “We Are the Apocalypse”, was released in 2022 to great acclaim. The album shows a band still as hungry and hellish as when they made classics such as “The Secrets of the Black Arts” in 1996 and “Vobiscum Satanas” in 1998. We are proud to have Dark Funeral back at Inferno to raise some hell!
https://www.facebook.com/darkfuneral

UadaFrom America's northwest we have black metal band Uada. Since their formation in 2014, Uada’s rise has been meteoric. The band released their debut album, “Devoid of Light” in 2016, and was soon a band to follow! The sequel “Cult Of A Dying Sun” expressed the band’s inimitably thunderous approach to aural darkness. In 2020 the band released their third album called “Djinn”. The band was also suppose to play at Inferno Metal Festival in 2020 – but things did not turn out that way – so we are happy to have them back for next year.
https://www.facebook.com/OfficialUADA

Sakis TolisIf you are into black metal there is a huge chance to you already know about Sakis Tolis from the great Greek band Rotting Christ. In 2022 Sakis Tolis released his first solo album – an amazing record called “Among the Fires of Hell”. It sounds black, gothic and ritualistic. Now Sakis Tolis will come to Norway and Inferno Metal Festival to perform with his solo band for the very first time!
https://www.facebook.com/people/Sakis-Tolis/100011073065110/

MorkMork was created by Thomas Eriksen in the town of Halden in Norway during 2004. Both then and now the band functions as a one-man-band – much like many others within the Black Metal-genre. Since 2014 the band performed live as a full band, and has done tours and shows in Europe and North America. Mork has received widespread coverage and acclaim by both underground and mainstream media, and are highly respected by scene legends as Nocturno Culto and Fenriz (Darkthrone) and Silenoz (Dimmu Borgir). The latest album, the massive masterpiece “Katedralen”, was released in March 2021.
https://www.facebook.com/MORKOFFICIAL

VredehammerVredehammer started as a one-man project in 2009 and released three EPs on a small underground label before their debut album “Vinteroffer” was released in 2014. Vredehammer instantly made themselves known as a force to be reckoned with in the Norwegian metal scene. One album in and the band was already nominated for “metal album of the year” through the Norwegian Grammys. The band quickly grow to become a full touring band with three highly acclaimed full-length albums in their discography. Since then Vredehammer have toured Europe as support for bands such as Satyricon and Six Feet Under, as well as together with Keep of Kalessin and Vreid, plus their own European headlining tour. It’s time to bring Vredehammer back to Inferno.
https://www.facebook.com/Vredehammer

AfskyAFSKY Danish black metal one-man band Afsky brings melancholy and sorrow to Inferno Metal Festival. The band started in 2015 and has then released two full-length albums; “Sorg” in 2018 and “Ofte jeg drømmer mig død” in 2020. Looking at the lyrics, the albums translates into “Sorrow” and “I often dream my self dead”, it might seem more that sad. But there is a beauty in all the depressive music and lyrics of Afsky that you can experience in all it’s glory when Afsky performs at Inferno for the very first time.

Indie Recordings Label Night at Salt - Wednesday April 13th
By lfh on Thursday, April 7, 2022, 12:04 AM

Indie LogoIndie Recordings are proud to announce our Inferno label night! The long dark wait is over, and the world has opened for earth-shattering infernal darkness yet again. Indie Recordings are proud to serve you three of our finest and most devastating musical profanities. This will be one hell of a night at Salt.

GlosonThe night starts with Gloson, who just released their acclaimed sophomore album The Rift. This is relentless, primitive, yet mesmerizingly sludge from the Swedish forest's depths through a unique combination of post-black and sludge. Gloson drags you into a comforting and chaotic world of blinding indifference.

NattefrostSecond, from the darkest corners of the black metal abyss, Nattefrost returns to the stage. Nattefrost is one of the most recognizable and longest-serving figures on the Black Metal scene. He has been performing as Nattefrost since the early 1990s and releasing solo music under the moniker since 2004 but is one of the founding members of Carpathian Forest. He has never shied away from controversy but at the same time, he has never sacrificed quality for mere sensationalism.

NordjevelLast is none other than the brutal and infernal force Nordjevel! Nordjevel leads the listeners into an empire of infernal rage filled with obscure, barbaric darkness through distinctive vocals set to acruel and instrumental sonic desert. Nordjevel's next album is due in fall 2022

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster here.

OvO performing live score to L'inferno
By lfh on Friday, April 1, 2022, 11:39 PM

Join us when Italian noise duo OvO will perform the live score for the silent Italian movie masterpiece 1911 "Dante’s Inferno" aka "L'Inferno". The oldest Italian feature film – the first movie inspired by Dante – the first movie that was presented in theatres as a piece of art instead of just a curiosity.

"L’Inferno" is the first Italian kolossal: in the dark forest Dante meets Virgilio, and with him he travels through the circles of hell. During the first projections in 1911 the special effects were so realistic that many people fainted and there were several episodes of panic.

Italian noise-rock duo OvO has been at the center of the worldwide post-rock, industrial-sludge, and avant-doom scenes for nearly two decades. Their always-on-tour mentality, coupled with a DIY ethic, fearless vision, and pulverizing live shows have made them the Jucifer of Europe; impossible to categorize, but always there, appearing in your hometown, like a ghostly omnipresence. OvO’s fiercely independent ethos and grinding live schedule have earned the band a significant worldwide fanbase that have come to expect nothing but the most daring and innovative dark music presentations.

The concert will take place at VEGA SCENE Friday 15th of April at 14.00. 150,- NOK for tickets. 75,- NOK for those with a four day pass to Inferno Metal Festival 2022.

Einherjer Replaces Uada
By lfh on Monday, March 7, 2022, 6:23 PM

As many already know; UADA has cancelled their European tour – which sadly also includes Inferno Metal Festival. Their official statement can be read on their own Facebook page. The good news is that legendary viking metal band EINHERJER will take their spot at Inferno Metal Festival 2022. Other news is that Danish death doom band KONVENT will be moved to John Dee, filling the spot to 1914, while German melodic death metal band HIRAES will fill the spot at Vaterland stage

EinherjerWhen Einherjer started out in 1993 the Norwegian black metal was on the rise. Einherjer went their own way and forged Viking Metal. With music and lyrics inspired by ancient Norse mythology the band made their own unique sound. The band has released several classic albums like “Dragons of the North”, “Odin Owns Ya All” and “Norwegian Native Art”. But their line of great album stretches all the way to this day as they released their amazing “North Star” last year. It’s been ten years since Einherjer played Inferno Metal Festival – but now the anthems from the greatest Viking Metal band in the world will shine over the festival once more!

HiraesGerman’s melodic death metallers Hiraes released their debut album “Solitary” last year. The band was formed on the ashes of Dawn of Disease when the band disbanded in 2020. The only difference from the latter is the amazing vocalist Britta Görtz now taking over the microphone. Fans of bands like Arch Enemy and Amon Amarth need to check out Hiraes when they play Inferno for the first time!

Order Added to the 2022 Lineup
By lfh on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, 5:41 PM

Norwegian Black Metal band ORDER joins the line-up for Inferno Metal Festival 2022. The band members are well-known from the Norwegian Death Metal band Cadaver and for an early incarnation of famous black metal band Mayhem. Order released their second full-length album, “The Gospel”, in 2021 to great acclaim.

OrderOrder was founded in 2013 by Anders Odden, Rene Jansen, Kjetil Manheim and Billy Messiah. The four being respectively responsible for early-stage Norwegian death metal (Cadaver) and the origin of the Norwegian Black metal (Mayhem). In 2014, Jansen sadly passed away, leaving the project unrealized. The remaining members decided to move forward despite the setback. In 2015 Stu Manx (f. Gluecifer) joined the band and set the band back on its quest to make unpolished raw black metal. To honor Jansen the band released the demo tape “Folly Grandeur” with rehearsal recordings the following year and in 2017 the debut album “Lex Amentiae” was released on Listenable Records. Four years later Order released their long awaited second studio album, “The Gospel”. It is now time to bring the band back to Inferno Metal Festival for another great gig!

Infernal Resurrection Part II - Superlynx and The Devil's Rejects
By lfh on Friday, June 18, 2021, 5:50 PM

We bid you welcome to part 2 of THE INFERNAL RESURRECTION. The happening will take place at Rock In, Tuesday, June 29th 2021. The bands that will be playing are doom masters SUPERLYNX and the Norwegian black thrash ensemble THE DEVIL’S REJECTS!

Tickets are available here: Ticketmaster - The Infernal Resurrection Part II

SuperlynxSUPERLYNX Superlynx is a psychedelic doom and stoner trio that was formed in 2013. The band exceeds genres with their distinct sound and melts doom, psych, meditative atmospheres and heavy droning rock together. Superlynx recently released their third album “Electric Temple” on Dark Essence Records. The album is both a continuation of what they’ve been doing before and a further development into moods not previously explored. The tragic death of a close family member has also made a deep mark on the album. Superlynx offers atmospheric gigs with tons of heaviness and dark beauty that haunts and spellbound the audience – so be sure to check them out at The Infernal Resurrection II.
https://www.facebook.com/superlynxband

Devil's RejectsThe Oslo based band The Devil’s Rejects offer a black thrash heavy metal attack that surely is made to kick ass! The band released their album “Blood Feast” yesteryear to great critical acclaim. Metal Hammer Italy gave the album the “Top Album” stamp and wrote “The point is that The Devil’s Rejects have managed to throw thrash (Slayer style), black (not to mention Darkthrone), heavy (at times the Maidenian inspiration is clear), with some splash of doom and death, bringing out a soup that is as toxic as it is dependent”. No wonder; with all songs inspired by trashy campy horror movies like “She Wolf of the SS”, “Seven Women for Satan” and “Color me Blood Red”, The Devil’s Rejects sure knows how to get the party started! Don’t miss out on Norway’s most promising newcomers – this will be a gig for the books!

The Infernal Resurrection June 17th - Ihsahn, Cadaver, Tulus
By lfh on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, 5:38 PM

While waiting for Inferno Metal Festival 2022 we got a very cool event we have called THE INFERNAL RESURRECTION that will take place at Sentrum Scene on June 17th 2021! The bands that will play are IHSAHN, CADAVER and TULUS. All three bands will also perform at Inferno Metal Festival 2022. There will be a very limited number of tickets for sale at Ticketmaster from Friday June 11th at 09.00!

IhsahnIhsahn comes from Notodden, Norway, where he at the age of thirteen started playing in what developed into one of the world’s most influential black metal bands, Emperor. At only seventeen he recorded and performed on the mighty "In the Nightside Eclipse" album, which has many times been voted as one of the top metal albums of all time. After Emperor released their last album, "Prometheus - The Discipline of Fire & Demise" in 2001, Ihsahn has focused on his solo work and has by now released seven albums. Ihsahn has recently released a couple of EPs. One of them is "Telemark" that the concert will be focused around. We are happy to have Ihsahn join us for this very exclusive event!
https://www.facebook.com/ihsahnmusic/

CadaverCadaver was one of the first death metal bands from Norway. After several demo tapes between 1988 and 1990, the band released their debut album “Hallucinating Anxiety” in 1990. Often considered has the very first Norwegian death metal album. Two years later they followed up with “...in Pains” before the split-up in 1993. In 1999 founding member Anders Odden (Order, ex Celtic Frost, Satyricon) brought the band back to life under the name Cadaver Inc. After a few years the band changed their name back to Cadaver before they disbanded again. Cadaver is now back and they released the brutal new album “Edder & Bile” in 2020. Inferno Kick-Off Cancellation Update
By lfh on Thursday, December 3, 2020, 9:28 PM

The kick-off planned this week was cancelled due to current covid-19 event restrictions as stated last week. The process of refunding everyone who bought tickets has been started. As Ticketmaster has a long backlog of events to process these days, as well as a reduced workforce, it may take longer than usual before this process is completed. Please stay patient.

Please note: Refunds will not include service fees paid to Ticketmaster as they are non-refundable.

Regarding a potential new kick-off event early next year we will come back to that when we know more about what event restrictions we're dealing with in a few weeks time.

Inferno Kick-Off Update
By lfh on Friday, November 27, 2020, 7:50 PM

Due to the 14 day extension to the covid-19 restrictions in Oslo, banning all indoor events until December 14th, the Inferno kick-off concerts unfortunately won't happen next week. We'll be back with further details this coming week.

Inferno 2021 Kick Off Concerts
By lfh on Sunday, November 15, 2020, 7:42 PM

Welcome to Inferno Metal Festival's kick off party! This year we will have a three they event at Rock In with one band each day. Black metal band TULUS will perform on Wednesday 2nd of December 2020, old school death metal outfit OBLITERATION will strike at Thursday 3rd of December and the masters of avantgarde black metal VED BUENS ENDE will enter the stage on Friday 4th of December! A limited number of tickets are for sale and can be bought at Ticketmaster now.

TULUS (Wednesday 2nd of December 2020)

TulusTulus is a Norwegian black metal band that was formed in 1991. The band released three classic albums before they disbanded in 2000 and members of Tulus later went on to form the band Khold. In 2006 Tulus returned and the following year they released “Biography Obscene”. This lead to an exclusive gig at Inferno in 2008 – performing for the second time in the history of the band. (Their first gig was at Mars in 1999). In 2012 the band released “Olm og bitter” and in 2014 the band offered another exclusive gig at Inferno Metal Festival. Tulus released their solid new album “Old Old Death” in March 2020!

OBLITERATION (Thursday 3rd of December 2020)
ObliterationKolbotn's Obliteration started in 2001 when the members of the band was still just young teenagers. Today they are regarded as one of Norway's finest death metal bands because of classic albums like “Perpetual Decay” from 2007, “Nekropsalms” from 2009 and “Black Death Horizon” from 2013. Obliteration's latest album “Cenotaph Obscure” came in 2018 and proves that the band still knows how to make supreme death metal with lots of variation with distinct flavors of both doom and black metal. Obliteration performed at Inferno Metal Festival as early as in 2005. It is a pleasure to have them back at our kick off party!

VED BUENS ENDE (Friday 4th of December 2020)
Ved Buens Ende Back in 1995 something completely different was released and it came from the Norwegian underground black metal scene. This unique masterpiece was called “Written in Waters”. It was no ordinary black metal album – far from it – it was music that no one had heard before. Some people would even argue if it was black metal at all – and some would just call it avantgarde black metal. It does not matter what you call it, it was something vast and distinctive that still feels unique even almost 25 years later. Ved Buens Ende was laid to rest soon after and the band has not released anything after “Written in Waters”. With members and ex-members from such bands as Aura Noir, Cadaver, Dødheimsgard, Satyricon, Arcturus, Ulver and Virus.

ENTOMBED A.D. (John Dee – Sunday April 4th)

Entombed ADIf you are reading this you probably already know about Entombed A.D. – the deadly sonic force fronted by former Nihilist and Entombed vocalist L-G Petrov. Inspired by such diverse acts as Autopsy, Motörhead, Discharge and Kiss, Entombed A.D is not afraid to think outside the coffin, resulting in a style some fans calls death ’n’ roll. Though, in the end it was, is and will just be a band with a style and impact entirely their own. With three full-length albums released under the new persona – ”Back to the Front”, ”Dead Dawn” and “Bowels of Earth” – Entombed A.D have proved their place as the rightful kings of death ’n’ roll. This will be their first time at Inferno Metal Festival!

NYRST (John Dee – Sunday April 4th)
NyrstNyrst means “northernmost” in Icelandic and the band holds true to its name when it comes to delivering an incredibly cold, stark and barren soundscape. With lyrics depicting old horror literature with cosmic undertones and very mystic and haunting live performances. The band was formed in 2013 and after 3 years of experience the band released their first demo which received much praise. Their debut album “Orsök” led to Nyrst landing a contract in late 2019 with renowned and well respected label, Dark Essence Records. Influenced by bands such as Emperor, Darkthrone, Bathory and Primordial the band delivers a diverse and epic scope of writing with massive and broad-ranging vocals delivered by their frontman Snæbjörn.

ISVIND (Rock In – Date TBA)

IsvindThe Norwegian black metal band Isvind was formed in 1992. The band released several demos and an album before the band stopped in 1997 and was more or less dead until 2010 when the duo again entered the studio to record their second full-length. After that, touring and recording became routine and the band has since released “Daumyra” and “Gud”. Today the band is a four piece unit that will release all hell at Rock In during Inferno Metal Festival 2021!

The band has released 7 albums by now. In 2014 From  The Vastland was nominated for global metal band at Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award. REGARDE LES HOMMES TOMBER (Vaterland – Friday April 2nd)
RLHTFrance's Regarde Les Hommes Tomber started in 2013 with a massive self-titled album released through Les Acteurs De L'Ombre Productions. The band instantly imprinted its vision in metal community: an epic blend of atmospheric black metal, sludge and death metal spreading out a dark universe inspired by the sacred scriptures. In 2015 "Exile" came out and intensified quintet music, bringing in more extreme influences and developing a dramatic sense of narration through cunningly balanced songs. Regarde Les Hommes Tomber earned respect from the metal community with intense and ritualistic live shows. Regarde Les Hommes Tomber recently joined force with Season Of Mist to release the third part of their triptych called “Ascension”.

Our Second Competition Winner
By lfh on Friday, February 28, 2020, 10:17 AM

We're delighted to announce that our second competition winner for 2020 is Gnida from Poland. They will play on Saturday April 11th.

GnidaThe birth of the band officially dates back to November 2010. While touring around Eastern Europe, Lucass (drums) and Sirius (voc) decided to start a fun-based band together: its mission was ‘to destroy with sound’, its genre – grindcore, its name – GNIDA. And Our First Competition Winner is...
By lfh on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, 10:42 AM

We are happy to announce Eridu from Germany as our first competition winner for 2020. They will play Sunday April 12th at our John Dee stage.

EriduWith the album Lugalbanda, the band Eridu revives the legacy of the long-lost Mesopotamian civilization. Named after the oldest city in Mesopotamia, the formation from Munich is opening a new chapter of Oriental Extreme Metal and evolves in the same atmosphere as the band Gilgamesh, active since 2011. Following the huge success of The Awakening, Gilgamesh's first album, the mastermind Enki (vocals, lyrics, composition) continues in the same musical and thematic influences by creating Eridu in 2017. In a world where society is submitted to vengeful gods, Lugalbanda tells the epic tales of the eponymous king of gods, Gilgamesh's father, and intertwined ancient stories with death and black metal. The 10 songs carry the listener through legendary battlefields, obscure ceremonies, and mystic rituals. Christoph Brandes from Iguana studios took care of the mixing and mastering of Lugalbanda. He is also the experienced ear behind FinsterForst, Imperium Dekadenz as well as Necrophagist's legendary Epitaph album. Driven by fast tempos and blastbeast-oriented drums, Eridu builds a bridge between a pounding Death metal and a melodic Black metal - where gloomy riffs meet an epic wall of sound. Designed with oriental narrative structures, Eridu stands for a sophisticated and diverse extreme metal that blends the boundaries between genres. Fans of Nile, Melechesch, Behemoth, and Keep of Kalessin will get what they're looking for.

Music can change the world! Some songs have done more than just entertain – they have changed the world. Together with Nobel Peace Center we invite you to their ongoing series about songs that have changed the world. So far artists like Bendik, Myra, Amanda Delara og Honningbarna have contributed with their interpretation of important songs that have changed the world. Now the Nobel Peace Center goes metal when Vreid will find a song about freedom of expression and do their interpretation of it. Asbjørn Slettemark, famous Norwegian music journalist and TV personality, will moderate the following debate about the chosen song. The gig will also include several of Vreid's own songs.

VreidThe Norwegian metal brigade rose from the ashes of black metal band Windir, after the tragic perishing of the “Sognametal” legends with the declared mission of exploring new musical paths. The band has now released eight great albums and is known for their amazing live shows. Vreid's newest masterpiece is “Lifehunger” which was released in 2018.

Toril Rokseth from Nobel Peace Center:
Nobel Peace Center wants to contribute to visitors of Oslo that attends cultural events also can experience some of the other things that the city has to offer. Through the cooperation with Inferno Metal Festival we offer a new arena for this kind of music – and at the same time we express that music can be more than just entertainment – music can change the world.

Asbjørn Slettemark:
All the way since the very beginning of “Songs That Changed the World”, the project has offered surprises, fun, new knowledge and some amazing, strong and catchy cover songs. To do this together with Inferno Metal Festival, a festival I have been thrilled about for many years, feels just right. That it will also include Vreid, a band I have been following as a fan and a journalist through the last 15 years, makes it especially fun and interesting. I am very excited for the song they will choose, perform and talk about

Jarle Hváll Kvåle from Vreid:
In Vreid we have always been up for new challenges. It was therefore with huge excitement we took on this task when Inferno Metal Festival and Nobel Peace Center challenged us to do our interpretation of a song that changed the world. Freedom of speech has been relevant since the very beginning of rock, and is just as relevant and important today. A lot has changed since rock 'n' roll was new and rebellious in the 60s, but still today the freedom of speech are controversial and debated, so maybe the world has been at a stand still over the last 60 years. We are thankful for the engagement. Vreid looks forward to dig deep into the rock history of many fantastic songs, and will be ready to perform our song at the Nobel Peace Center in April.

Triumph of DeathTom G. Warrior, from Celtic Frost and Triptykon, started back in 1982 a band called Hellhammer. The band existed for a mere two years, from May 1982 to May 1984. During this time, the band released three demos, one 12-inch EP, and two songs on the legendary "Death Metal" compilation album. The band disbanded when Hellhammer members Tom Gabriel Warrior and Martin Eric Ain went on to form Celtic Frost. Warrior has made it clear; Hellhammer will never return and will never be reformed. Still the music exists, and it is an extremely important part of Tom G. Warrior's life and extreme metal in general – widely credited as pioneers of extreme metal. Even if Hellhammer is a band of the past, Warrior had an urge to perform the classics on stage. This is when Triumph of Death became an reality. Triumph of Death is a band solely dedicated to perform the legendary music from Hellhammer. We can't wait to bring this band out on stage at Inferno Metal Festival 2020!
https://www.facebook.com/HellhammerTriumphOfDeath/

AmorphisAmorphis started all the way back in 1990 – making them one of the pioneer within the Finnish death metal genre. Amorphis' music has turned more melodic over the years – spanning over a wide set of genres – including doom death, progressive metal, folk metal and power metal. The band has many classics under the belt, like “Black Winter Day”, “My Kantele”, “Silver Bride”, “Death of a King” and their biggest hit “House of Sleep”. Their latest album “Queen of Time” is pure ear candy and includes their latest hit “The Bee”. The line-up today includes all original members from 1990. We can't wait to have this great band at Inferno Metal Festival for the very first time.

AsphyxAsphyx is a Dutch death metal band that was formed in 1987. Their classic style of death doom metal is very dark, obscure, morbid and brutal. The band release some legendary albums in the early 90s, like “The Rack” in 1991, “Last One on Earth” in 1992 and “Asphyx” in 1994. The band split up in 1996, but the members continued as Soulburn. After several years the band was back together and have by now recorded nine studio albums. The last one is “Incoming Death” from 2016 and it shows a band that still know how to make music brutal with no compromises. This will be the legendary death metal band ASPHYX' first appearance at Inferno Metal Festival!
https://www.facebook.com/officialasphyx/

Oranssi PazuzuOranssi Pazuzu was formed in Finland in 2007. Two years later their debut album “Muukalainen Puhuu” was released to great acclaim. By now the band has released four studio albums and one live album. The live album, “Live at Roadburn 2017” was released October 2019 and shows a band with a lot of diversity and strength. Oranssi Pazuzu went full psychomania at Inferno Metal Festival 2014 and we are happy to have them back in 2020.

The Great Old OnesThe Great Old Ones are a French post-black metal band that was formed in 2009. The Great Old Ones is deities in the H. P. Lovecraft fantasy universe. The band has by now released four albums. Their new record is called “Cosmicism” and will be released on the 22nd of October. This will be The Great Old Ones first gig on Norwegian soil.

Kniven Stage at Inferno 2020
By lfh on Sunday, October 13, 2019, 12:40 PM

We will also use the smaller stage down in the basement at Kniven Bar on Saturday and Sunday for some matinée concerts, together with DJs and happenings in the bar. The bands playing are OKKULTOKRATI, SOVEREIGN, NACHASH and KOSMOS BRENNER.

OkkultokratiThe Oslo band Okkultokrati thrust the heretic rock and roll that they have cultivated since their 2008 inception into more extraordinary situations. Classic 70s riffing, snotty punk, and brash old school metal are inventively mixed with pulses and spikes of dark wave and ice cold, psychedelic repetition. The band won the award for “best metal album” in 2016 at the “Norwegian Grammy” called Spellemannsprisen. Now they are ready to destroy at the early hours at Kniven Stage!
https://www.facebook.com/okkultokrati/

NachashOslo band Nachash was formed in 2011 and brings their deathly black metal darkness to the stage at Kniven – inspired by Master's Hammer, old Samael, Bathory and old Rotting Christ. Debut album "Phantasmal Triunity" was released by US-label Shadow Kingdom Records in 2018 and the band is currently working on album number two.
https://www.facebook.com/nachashnorway/

BrennerKosmos Brenner is a trio from Oslo that started in 2011/2012. The band has taken it upon themselves to dive further into the inner workings of massive riffs and dark noisy psychedelia. With the debut EP, “Cosmic Pyre”, their aim was to take the listener on a journey through the existential and all encompassing dread and despair which is the universe. During the past years Kosmos Brenner has been a fire in the Oslo underground, supporting acts like Acid King, Okkultokrati and Saturnalia Temple.
https://www.facebook.com/kosmosbrenner/

SovereignThe Oslo death thrash outfit Sovereign is a pretty new band that started in 2018 and has only released two demo tapes so far. The band is inspired by late 80s and early 90s death and thrash metal. Check them out. This is a newcomer that are hungry and ready to conquer the world!

Germany's legendary thrash metal titans KREATOR are confirmed for Inferno Metal Festival 2020! We are proud to have one of the godfathers of German thrash metal playing at Inferno Metal Festival for the very first time at our 20 year anniversary.

KreatorKreator has a story that go all the way back to 1982 when the band was called Tormentor. This early stage laid the foundation for an exceptional career that would see Kreator rise to become part of what’s to be considered the German equivalent of the Big Four (Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth) of American thrash metal – the Big Three of German thrash, alongside Sodom and Destruction. Though rooted in thrash metal, Kreator has never been afraid to push the genre‘s boundaries both musically and lyrically. This vitality has made Kreator one of the best thrash metal bands over several decades. From legendary classics like “Endless Pain” and “Pleasure to Kill” to newer albums like “Phantom Antichrist” and “Gods of Violence” – Kreator will sure as hell tear down the roof at Rockefeller when they come to Inferno Metal Festival for the first time.

Benighted, Dyscarnate and Asagraum to Inferno 2020
By lfh on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, 11:37 AM

Brutal death metal band BENIGHTED from France, UK three piece death metal act DYSCARNATE and Netherlands black metal band ASAGRAUM, are all confirmed for Inferno Metal Festival 2020!

BenightedBenighted were spawned by members from French Death and Black metal bands Dishumanized, Darkness Fire and Osgiliath, who joined forces in 1998 for a more brutal, heavy and modern way of expression. When their first self-produced and self-titled full-length hit the streets in 2000, it immediately had a strong impact. This turned a side-project into a main act. A fast-growing fan base was built by a string of acclaimed albums. On the live front, Benighted quickly started to capture audiences with sweat driver performances that bulldozer any resistance mercilessly aside. This allowed the French to climb up the ladder fast and soon came invitations to all major European festivals including Neurotic Death Fest, Hellfest, Wacken, Brutal Assault, Summer Breeze, and Inferno Festival among many more. It's been more than 10 years since the band perform at Inferno by now – so we welcome them back at Inferno 2020!

DyscarnateDyscarnate is a three piece death metal band from the UK that started in 2003 under the name Incarnate. After the the stellar release of their latest album, "With All Their Might" in 2017, the band has toured across Australia, Europe, Indonesia, Israel, Russia and more. This will be Dyscarnate first performance at Inferno Metal Festival. Expect strength. Expect violence. Expect Dyscarnate!

Kolsvart, to create pure Satanic black metal with the old-school feeling of the eternal 90's greats and with dark psychedelic influences. A three-track promo recording was released in early 2017, laying bare Asagraum's aims and sound. Wasting no time, debut album “Potestas Magicum Diaboli” was recorded, mixed at the Swedish Necromorbus Studio and released by KVLT records in September 2017. Asagraum has a brand new album out on September 13th that is called “Dawn of Infinite Fire”. This will be their first appearance at Inferno Metal Festival.

Venom to Headline at Inferno 2020

We are proud to announce that the godfathers of black metal will perform at Inferno Metal Festival 2020! With songs like “Black Metal”, “Welcome to Hell”, “In League With Satan”, “Witching Hour” and “In Nomine Satanas” this will truly be legendary! We welcome: VENOM!

VenomVenom's history goes as far back as to 1978 when the band was formed under the moniker Dwarfstar in Newcastle. The band is considered a major influence on thrash metal and extreme metal in general. In 1982 they released their eponymous album “Black Metal” and at the same time laid the seeds for a new genre that would become big, especially in Norway. You most likely wouldn't have bands like Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth either, if it was not for the groundbreaking music made by Venom in the early 80s. Venom is still going strong and we can't wait to have them with us at Inferno Metal Festival 2020! Lay down your souls to the gods rock 'n roll – black metal!

Einride and K.R in 2014, based on new ideas and ideas dating back as far as the early nineties. Since 2017 the band has released the critical acclaimed “Nid - Hymner av hat” and will now tour together with Behemoth. Uada, Hamferð and Solbrud Joins the 2020 Lineup
By lfh on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, 10:31 AM

Today we’re happy to reveal another 3 bands that will perform at Inferno Metal Festival 2020. Uada the black metal band from Portland, Oregon in the USA, Hamferð from the Faeroe Islands with their unique doom metal style as well as the black metal outfit Solbrud from Denmark joins our lineup.

UadaUada is returning from their superb appearance on our smaller stage, John Dee, in 2018 and will take on the main stage in 2020. Hamferð and Solbrud have only played the now extinct club day once each a few years back and will make their debut at our main festival days next year.

From the darkness, UADA (meaning haunted in Latin) emerges breathing the spirit of the original 90’s Black Metal wave. Since 2014, this Portland, Oregon four-piece has used a unique approach to combine raw black metal and spectral melodies.

In spring 2016, their debut album “Devoid of Light” was released via Eisenwald, self-recorded by the band & then mastered by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust). It features the artwork of Kris Verwimp and band photography by Peter Beste. In support of this new album, Uada is confirmed to play the Northwestern Black Circle Festival again, this time with Absu and will mark the kick off date for a west coast tour.

On their sophomore full-length, “Cult of a Dying Sun” released in 2018, Uada expanded their scope and range of hypnotic craft. Balancing sharp riffs with spectral melodies in a manifold of haunting yet distinctive black metal dirges. A sharp spear in the heart of the brightest star. Epic, atmospheric, deadly.
https://www.facebook.com/OfficialUADA/

HamferdHamferð is a Faroese term for the living images of sailors appearing before their loved ones. Written recordings of these apparitions are a recurrence within the toilsome and sorrowful depths of Faroese history, and this is where Hamferð, the band, draws its inspiration. Echoing through crawling, thunderous marches of blight and wails of melancholic isolation are the greatly unexplored darker recesses within the soul of the island people. Love, loss and solitude compose the core of the band’s poetic lyricism, and all is presented through funereal figures, taking the stage with mournful silence.
http://www.facebook.com/hamferd

SolbrudFrom the birth of Solbrud (Danish for sun breach) in 2009, the aim has been to forge melodic and evocative compositions in a raw, storm-like expression; a sound generally achieved by coupling unrelenting drumming with chord and harmony based guitar riffs through an array of effects, creating an intense and atmospheric soundscape -or in fewer words: Black metal. The debut ‘Solbrud’ was released in 2012, and in 2014 ‘Jærtegn’ followed. Both albums and the quartet’s emotional and intense live performances have since then consolidated Solbrud as a band with a special, artistic vision unfolding in non-compromising and boundary pushing black metal.

Bölzer and Djerv to Inferno 2020
By lfh on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, 11:44 AM

We are proud to announce that the Norwegian metal band DJERV and Switzerland's black/death metal duo BÖLZER will perform at Inferno Metal Festival 2020!

BölzerAttention came quickly to Switzerland's Bölzer after their 2012 demo “Roman Acupuncture” and subsequent EP “Aura” in 2013 due to their ability to create fascinating black metal melodies and dissonant structures with only two members in the band. Their debut album “Hero” was released in 2016 and was incredibly well received and as such the duo have been invited to play all over the world. Now it is time to finally play at Inferno Metal Festival!

Djerv

Djerv was formed in 2010 with members from such bands as Animal Alpha, Stonegard and Trelldom. In 2011 they released their self titled debut album to critical acclaim. Their fresh mixture of catchy hard rock and more aggressive metal hit a nerve with their listeners. After only two days in sale the album crashed into the official Norwegian sales charts at an impressive # 8. After some years with heavy touring the band went into hibernation. Now they are back – stronger than ever! After five years the band has returned and will unleash their madness at Inferno Metal Festival 2020!

Inferno Metal Festival is proud to announce the first bands for Inferno Metal Festival 2020! Next year marks our 20 years anniversary and we are looking forward to celebrate with all of you. The first bands for 2020 are Kampfar, Ved Buens Ende, Cadaver, Myrkskog, Sylvaine and Valkyrja!

KampfarKampfar needs no introductions for fans of Norwegian black metal. The band was formed in 1994 and has since then released eight full-length albums and several EPs and singles. In 2015 Kampfar won an award at Spellemannsprisen (Norwegian Grammy) for their album “Profan”. Ved Buens EndeBack in 1995 something completely different was released and it came from the Norwegian underground black metal scene. This unique masterpiece was called “Written in Waters”. It was no ordinary black metal album – far from it – it was music that no one had heard before. Some people would even argue if it was black metal at all – and some would just call it avant-garde black metal. It does not matter what you call it, it was something vast and distinctive that still feels unique even almost 25 years later. Ved Buens Ende was laid to rest soon after and the band has not released anything after “Written in Waters”. Finally the band are back and will play live at Inferno Metal Festival! With members and ex-members from such bands as Aura Noir, Cadaver, Dødheimsgard, Satyricon, Arcturus, Ulver and Virus.

CadaverCadaver was one of the first Norwegian death metal bands. After several demo tapes between 1988 and 1990, the band released their debut album “Hallucinating Anxiety” in 1990. Two years later they followed up with “...in Pains” before the split-up in 1993. In 1999 founding member Anders Odden (Order, exCeltic Frost, Satyricon) brought the band back to life under the name Cadaver Inc. After a few years the band changed their name back to Cadaver before they disbanded again. Cadaver is now back and a new album will be released. Anders Odden has recruited Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and they are ready to unleashed more Norwegian death metal upon the world.

MyrkskogNorwegian death metal band Myrkskog was formed in 1993. The band released a couple of demo tapes during the 90s. In 2000 their debut album “Deathmachine” was released – a brutal album that felt like being hit in the face with a shovel. Two years later the follow-up called “Superior Massacre” was released. Now Myrkskog is back and ready to release their fury upon Inferno Metal Festival! Since it will be 20 years ago that “Deathmachine” was released the band will perform the album in its entirety. With members and exmembers from bands like Morbid Angel, Emperor, Odium, Nordjevel and Zyklon.

SylvaineNorwegian multi-instrumentalist Sylvaine has released two albums on Season of Mist; “Wistful” from 2016 and “Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone” from 2018. The Latter was nominated in the metal category at Spellemannsprisen (The Norwegian Grammy). The project serves as an emotional catharsis for the artist, revealing the eternal longing for something more residing within its melodies, capturing the feeling of being trapped and restraint by the human form.

ValkyrjaSwedish black metal band Valkyrja was formed in 2004. Valkyrja quickly gained their reputation as a ferocious live act; a display of carnal lust leaving each stage with the foul scent of death. Since then the band has released four albums of furious black metal violence. Valkyrja is touring as support for Marduk at the moment and will be good and ready for Inferno Metal Festival in 2020.
